As Poetry and Spoken word has undergone a cultural resurgence, the artist currently known as Sharrif Simmons has become a staple in the cultural art scene. From dimly lit stages to silver screens to a television near you, Sharrif has made his presence felt. If you have ever been fortunate enough to experience a Sharrif Simmons performance, you didn't only feel it, you heard it, smelled it and tasted it as well. Most likely, you are still sub-consciously "soaking in it".
Sharrif Simmons brings intense energy, wisdom, political insight and musical ability to the community table through his prophetic poetry. He has shared spotlights with poets and emcees like Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Saul Williams and Jessica Care Moore, whose Moore Black Press published Sharrif's first book Fast Cities and Objects That Burn, and has appeared in several short and feature length films, including Panther, Slam and Ripples. Today, Sharrif Simmons is prepared to stand out further from the crowd and once again make his mark on the cultural landscape with an explosive appearance on HBO's presentation of Def Poetry Jam (his segment set to air July 8th, 2005) and the release of his highly anticipated debut CD, the EchoEffect.
This remarkable collaboration between poetry and music will send listeners into a psychic abyss cradled by passion and prodded by controversy, all the while staying true to the tradition set by his fore fathers, mothers, sisters and brothers of the Spoken Word. New Sound Network proudly presents Sharrif Simmons - the EchoEffect.
